I need some quick help. I'm replacing the intake manifold gasket on my wife's 2001 Toyota corolla. The new gasket has a rubberized seal on one side(either the manifold or engine side). The manifold is made of metal. Should I put the rubberized side facing the engine or the manifold. The one I took off either doesn't have the rubberized side or it wore off.

Thanks in advance or the help.

I'd guess metal on the engine side because the manifold usually stays colder than the block and the heat might ruin the rubber. Complete guess though.

I don't think it matters which side the rubber is facing. The rubber is just to help it form an air tight seal.

wouldn't that be manifold side sine the manifold would be cooler?

the blue bit is only on this side. Should that face the manifold or the engine?

I'd say blue side to manifold. The block surface is machined perfectly flat to good tolerances whereas the tolerances for the manifolds are often larger. Basically it helps the manifold seal properly.
